Irvin Morton Honigsberg was born February 8, 1929 in Leaksville, NC. He grew up in Silver Spring, MD, attended the University of Maryland, then entered the U.S. Air Force, serving as a pilot in Europe and North Africa.
He married Ann Black in 1952, and returned to Enid, OK to manage Larry Black Sporting Goods (LBSG) from 1953 to 1974. In 1976, he purchased LBSG and grew the business until 2000 when he sold it.
He was in Ambucs (ABC), a 32nd Degree Mason, an original member of Main Street Enid, charter member of the Grand National Quail Club, past Chairman of the Board of the Garfield County American Red Cross, and past District Governor of Rotary District 5750. He served on the boards of the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Committee and Phillip’s University.
In 1972, Irv married Ruth Ann Marsh.
Irv was elected to Enid City Council Ward 1 in 1999, and then elected Mayor of the City of Enid in 2003. He was involved with the BRAC Commission, helped create the Mayor’s Youth Council, and was a mentor and tutor for numerous elementary students.
Irv had four children: Michele (Honigsberg) Cowen, Michael Honigsberg, Melonee (Honigsberg) Spurlock, and Lori (Honigsberg) Bourne, and three step-children: Berlinda (Marsh) Bazzell, Derek Marsh, and Barry Marsh.
