Bill was born September 9, 1941 in Bald Knob, AR and was raised in Harrison, AR. He was the first of his family to graduate from college, receiving his degree from the University of Arkansas in 1964.
In 1965 he was stationed at Vance AFB in Enid, OK to complete his training as an Air Force pilot. He served in the Vietnam War as a fighter pilot earning the following medals. Aviation Medal with 11 Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Combat Medal, Air Force Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, and others.
Bill returned to Enid with his family after his active duty service in 1972 calling Enid his home. He was active in community service. Bill was a Enid School Board Member for 26 years, receiving the Buddy Spencer Leadership Award presented by the Oklahoma State School Board Association. He was a member of the All-State School Board, and received the Friend of Education Award.
Bill was also active with Enid Joint Recreational Trust serving as the school board’s representative. He was a member of AMBUCS and the Big Hat Club, Daedalians, the Red Cross, Enid Air Force Association, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans.
Bill and his wife Caroline raised their children in Enid and believed in Enid’s community values and in public service. He worked as a Flight Simulator Instructor at Vance Air Force Base until his death.
