Lew Meibergen was the chairman of the board and president of Johnston Enterprises, Incorporated in Enid, Oklahoma. The grain company is the oldest and largest independent grain company in Oklahoma. Johnston Seed Company operates primarily in Oklahoma and works closely with Oklahoma State University in developing turf grasses.
Governor Henry Bellmon appointed him the first Republican Secretary of Agriculture for Oklahoma from 1963-66. He was awarded the Distinguished Agricultural Alumni Award from OSU and the Graduate of Distinction Award from the Department of Agriculture in 2001. He served as president or chairman of the Enid Rotary Club, Enid Chamber of Commerce, Enid Phillips Campaign, and Enid United Way.
The State of Oklahoma presented Lew the Governor’s Outstanding Achievement Award in Agriculture and selected him as the 13th member of the Oklahoma Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2012. He was inducted into the OSU Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2011.
