April Danahy was born in Great Falls, Montana on an Air Force base. She arrived in Enid, Oklahoma, in 1970, after her father retired from the United States Air Force. Her parents met while he was stationed at Vance Air Force Base, setting the stage for her lifelong connection to the Enid community. She graduated from Phillips University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications.
April has been deeply involved in Enid's community, serving in numerous roles on various boards and commissions. She has been a dedicated member of the Vance Development Authority (VDA), the Enid Police Civil Service Commission, and the Enid Fire Civil Service Commission, where she held the position of Chairman for both. Additionally, she contributed her expertise to the Community Development Block Grant committee. Over the years, April has served multiple terms on the VDA and spearheaded marketing and communications efforts for all Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) rounds since 1995. Her work included the creation of printed materials, videos, and messaging for presentations at the Pentagon and to the BRAC commission. She also organized live broadcasts of BRAC hearings from Texas to Enid to keep the local community informed.
April has also been a passionate advocate for various fundraising campaigns, serving as campaign chair for the United Way and leading efforts to raise funds for the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, CDSA, and 4R Kids. Her dedication to public service extended to her appointment by the Senate Pro Tempore to the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, where she served as chair, representing Northwest Oklahoma.
In addition to her civic engagements, April is the creator of Enid's longest-running "Shop Enid" promotion, Candy Cane Cash, and Enid’s Day at the Capitol. She also founded the Dachshund Dash, which raised over $100,000 in seven years for animal-related causes, such as purchasing dogs for the Enid Police Department's K9 unit, building outdoor adoption areas at Enid Animal Welfare, and installing drinking stations for animals along the city's trail system.
April's innovative ideas have left a lasting impact on the Enid community. Her career also includes a successful 17-year tenure as an award-winning broadcaster. Today, she continues contributing to Enid as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Human Resources at Security National Bank of Enid.
